I’ve been in radio 27 years, including 25 for KSMA and Sunny Country (I was here when we put Sunny Country on the air)
I was born and raised in Santa Maria, attended the old Main Street School, Miller School, Fesler Junior High and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1976. I attended Allan Hancock College from 1976 to 1979 when I got into the radio business. I’ve been married to my wife Kathy since 1989. We enjoy golf, camping, travel and our two beautiful granddaughters.
During my years at KSMA I’ve held about every position there is from Program Director to Plumber (sometimes the same job).
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best radio talent on the central coast, many of whom have gone on to national prominence. From former owners Joe Haggerman and John and Alice Bayliss and former general manager Ed Murray to Patti Reising and Jeff Bell who are now co-anchors of the afternoon news on KCBS in San Francisco, John Pilios, now a news director at KGET-TV in Bakersfield, Jeff Harris a station manager for a group of stations in Yuma, Arizona, the legendary Steve Southwick and my latest partner Claude “Hoot” Hooten.
Sports play-by-play has always been my first love and I was fortunate enough to win the Associated Press award for best play-by-play broadcast in California and Nevada in 1985 and again in 1991.
I was honored to be recognized by the City of Santa Maria and Santa Barbara County for my 25 years at KSMA with proclamations on November 3, 2006.
I look forward to serving the Santa Maria Valley for many years to come.
